Ukraine Appeal
Jempson’s are proud to support our local farmers, growers, producer and services, as well as the communities that we are privileged to serve.
We are deeply shocked and saddened by the terrible events that are unfolding in Ukraine. The Ukrainian people are foremost in our thoughts and we stand in solidarity with them.
It is therefore with immediate effect, that the beneficiary of all our in-store charity boxes will be transferred to fundraising for those whose lives have been affected at this desperately difficult time.
All Jempson’s stores and the Rye Bakery outlets are offering customers and colleagues the opportunity to give their support by way of a voluntary donation of £1 when at our store till points. We will match this, with all the donations received to our in-store charity collection boxes, up to £10,000.
All monies raised will be donated to the ‘Salvation Army Disasters Fund’.
The Salvation Army have emergency teams stationed in Ukraine, as well as Poland, Moldova, Slovakia and other surrounding countries.
Let’s try and reach £20,000 in the coming weeks to reach those in urgent need.
Thank you for your support,
Stephen and all at Jempson’s.
Foundation donation to Rye College
The Jempson Foundation recently made a donation to Rye College to support their Eco Clubs Bike rack project.
Amy Biddle from Rye College said “Rye College runs a very passionate extra-curricular Eco Club who meet once a week to discuss green initiatives and raise money via their regular bake sales to help fund some of their plans. These include; funding for greener spaces including a student led wildlife friendly garden and vegetable patch, a new bike rack and shelter to encourage more students to bike to school, improve recycling facilities within the school and working with the canteen to reduce waste and promote reusable materials. Their aim is for more sustainable and greener school environment for all to enjoy”.
She continued “We are very grateful for the very kind donation given to us by the Jempson’s Foundation. We are delighted to now have enough funding for our new bike shelter which will make a big difference to lots of students in our community. Thank you Jempson’s!”
Stephen Jempson said ‘The Jempson Foundation was established to extend our support to the local communities where we operate our stores. It was with tremendous pleasure that we made this donation to Rye College’s Eco-Club for their bike shelter and that this support will make a difference to those that attend and their Eco-Club’s green initiative’.
James Martin Cooks up a Storm at Peasmarsh
The much-loved Saturday Morning Chef and television personality James Martin hosted three cookery demonstrations at our Peasmarsh Superstore on Friday 1st October.
The sold-out event was a resounding success, seeing the chef cooking recipes from a number of his books, Barnsley lamb chops with onion squash, pumpkin gnocchi and crispy sage, sirloin steak with Roscoff onions and miso butter, crab beignets with lemon mayonnaise and waffles with pecan and maple butter, he then signed copies of his book ‘Islands to Highlands’ as well as the brand new ‘Butter’.
Stephen Jempson said ‘It was a genuine pleasure to welcome James back again to the store, we hope that our guests thoroughly enjoyed their evening, it certainly looked as though they did, we would like to thank them for coming as well as our event partners, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, McDougalls Flour, Lurpak Butter, Hardy’s Wine and Peroni Italia for their support’. He continued ‘We have already booked two celebrity chef’s for next year’s ‘Meet the Expert’ events in June and December, our customers are in for a treat, we look forward to announcing them soon!
Bank Holiday Charity Boot Fairs – A Bumper Success
Our Peasmarsh Superstore played host to a number of Bank Holiday Charity Boot Fairs, with this year’s proving very popular, which in turn helped to raise a significant amount of money for local good causes.
This year’s car boots attracted hordes of sellers and enthusiastic bargain hunters, with over £1,300’s being raised.
All the money from the sales of pitches and collections on the day, were donated to Rye & District Community Transport, Rye & District Day Centre and Rye Hospital. The Easter Monday event was called off due to Covid-19 Lockdown restrictions.
Stephen Jempson said ‘Our Boot Fairs are a well-established event in the Jempson’s calendar. We take great pleasure in offering our services for the benefit of local good causes and the community over-all. Thank you to everyone who attended. We look forward to welcoming even more traders and bargain hunters to next year’s Bank Holiday events’
Pat Hughes from Rye & District Community Transport said ‘It was just lovely! Following lockdown, it was brilliant to see people so happy!’
Rye & District Day Centre’s Bill Coleman said ‘We would like to thank Jempson’s for all their support for the Day Centre, both from these events and their donations at Christmas’

New Lockdown Safety Measures Introduced
With Coronavirus cases on the increase, we have added a raft of further safety measures for the reassurance of both our colleagues and customers throughout the latest national lockdown.
The additional procedures include the following:
- Regular specialist fogging and disinfection deep-clean treatment of all stores
This will be carried out by local company Calendar Cleaning and includes out of hours deep clean fogging of all the public areas.
- New re-useable and washable face masks have been issued to all colleagues.
- Our own in-house fogging and disinfection deep clean treatment of all colleague areas in all stores
Stephen Jempson said “It goes without saying that the wellbeing and health & safety of everyone who enters a Jempson’s store is absolutely paramount, all can be assured that everything we can possibly implement is being done”.
Jingle all the way on the Children’s ward
Seventy-three of our colleagues from the Peasmarsh Superstore, have gifted over 100 Christmas presents to the Kipling Children’s Ward at the Conquest in Hastings, for those who will be in hospital over the festive season.
Abbey Tank said “My colleagues and I decided that after such a tumultuous year, instead of our usual ‘Secret Santa’, it would be a truly lovely gesture to give presents instead to those children in our local hospital who cannot be home with their families this Christmas, and will have further visiting restrictions due to Covid” she continued “We have presents for boys and girls of all ages, from newborns to 10+ which were chosen by the team, then wrapped and labelled. We hope that this is a little something that will help brighten-up their time whilst they are recuperating”
Gifts were donated to ward nurses and will be distributed on Christmas morning.

Stephen Jempson said “We started our home delivery service from scratch and within a week of lockdown”. The service has been exceedingly popular and has proved to be a lifeline to those in need and unable to leave their homes.
Stephen added ” You will shortly be seeing Jempson’s Home Delivery vans in the area and you will also have the option to order Home Deliveries on the internet. This will be an additional service, those that wish to continue sending in their requests by email or telephone can still do so.
